Shortly after 5 PM on Saturday, April 13th, 2024, Coweta County E911 received multiple calls regarding an accident at the intersection of S Highway 29 and E Highway 16.
Originally the information passed to E911 was that there were multiple vehicles involved with a motorcycle rider that had been hit by a vehicle and was now lying in the grass beside the road. They confirmed the rider was moving and that he was wearing a helmet but that it was cracked.
Due to the information coming in from witnesses, the incoming EMS units requested that dispatch check to see if there was an available Life Flight unit that could respond to the scene.
The first units arrived on the scene within minutes of being dispatched, confirming that the rider had serious injuries and that a Life Flight was needed. Air Life 4, based out of the Newnan Coweta Airport a short distance from the accident scene had just returned to their base and responded, landing in a field next to the scene to pick up the patient.
The rider was packaged for transport and Life Flighted to Grady Hospital in Atlanta.
Family Update
A member of the victim’s family reached out to me this afternoon to provide an update and some more information regarding the accident. According to the family member the rider had a medical emergency while riding his bike and when he attempted to make a turn onto Highway 16 E he was unable to complete the turn and struck the curb, sending the rider and the motorcycle to the ground with no other vehicles involved.
The vehicles reported by callers seem to have belonged to bystanders who had come to the rider’s aid, including some of the rider’s friends who were traveling with him.
