At 8:47 PM on Monday, April 1st, 2024, E911 Dispatch received a call from employees at the Dollar General in Haralson reporting a burglary in progress.
Deputies with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office were immediately dispatched and officers with the Senoia Police Department were requested to respond given the distance of responding CCSO units and the level of crime being reported. SPD Officers did initially respond, however, ended up not being utilized.
As units responded, Dispatch was able to get more information from the reporting party including a description of the suspects, their vehicle, and even a possible tag for the suspect vehicle. They were informed shortly after the initial call that the suspects had left the scene.
The suspects were described as a black female ” in a jogger “, that left the scene in a burgundy Dodge Charger driven by a heavy-set black male.
As the first units arrived on the scene ( 8:52 PM ), other units searched local roads for a vehicle matching the description given.
Suspect Vehicle Located
At 8:59 PM a CCSO deputy informed dispatch that he’d located a vehicle matching the description less than a mile away in the parking lot of La Casa Del Taco, less than a mile south of the incident scene at the intersection of Line Creek Rd and Hwy 85. The deputy got out with the vehicle as other deputies headed to the location.
After making contact with the passengers of the vehicle, the deputy confirmed that the suspects inside the vehicle matched the description given by the caller and noted they had multiple Dollar General Bags ( later found to contain candy and lotion ) within view in the vehicle. The two passengers were detained while deputies continued to investigate both at the Dollar General as well as the stop location.
Per policy, both individuals who were detained were run for any outstanding warrants or holds, which neither had. We’re not releasing their identities as they were not charged with a crime.
Camera’s Show a lot of Nothing
Deputies at the Dollar General attempted to piece together what had occurred and after some initial issues accessing the security camera feed, were able to piece together that nothing had occurred outside of some possible suspicious activity on the customer’s part.
This was quickly relayed to the deputies who had the individuals detained and by 9:30 PM they had been released and were free to go.
I’ve so far been unable to obtain information regarding what the suspicious behavior was that warranted employees feeling the need to call 911, but have requested more information from the CCSO regarding the incident.
The nature code of the incident was changed from a Burglary in Progress to a Suspicious Subject or Vehicle Activity at the commencement of the investigation.
