Rash of Security Incidents at Evans Middle School
The September 4th tragedy at Apalachee High School has been followed by a mind-boggling number of school threats and security incidents across Georgia, including Coweta County.
Evidence of this unprecedented rate of increase is Evans Middle School which informed parents today that vague threats had been located in the girls’ restroom on the 7th-grade hall, this coming the day after slightly more pointed threats were found in the girls’ bathroom at Northgate High School sparking outrage and increased security.
Today’s notification to parents is the latest in a string of incidents at the school in the past several days.
Threats Located in Bathroom
Jessica Slaton, Principal of Evans Middle School notified parents today just before 2 PM of a security threat.
According to the statement, graffiti was discovered this morning in the girls’ restroom on the 7th-grade hall making a vague threat.
The graffiti, which stated ” We JinkedZ us Shoot ups are abt to happen.”, didn’t reference the school or a particular time unlike recent threats seen at other schools.
It continues by stating that authorities don’t believe the threat to be either imminent or credible, despite having identified the source of the graffiti.
The investigation is said to continue with multiple individuals having been interviewed in search for the source.
Shell Casing Falls Out of Students Pocket
NCST was contacted by multiple parents regarding an incident they were relayed by students at the school.
According to the information provided, a shell casing was found on the floor of the gym at the school on the morning of Monday, September 16th, 2024.
While no official communication has been released from the school, NCST was able to confirm with the Coweta County School system that a spent 22 caliber shell had fallen out of a student’s pocket while in the gym on Monday.
No further details about the incident have been provided and it’s unknown how, or if, the incident led to any disciplinary action.
Student Arrested after being Found with ” Large Kitchen Knife “
On Friday, September 13th, Evans Middle School notified parents that they’d been notified by a student that morning that another student had a vape. In searching for the vape, which was found, they located a ” large 8-inch Kitchen Knife ” in the students’ backpack.
That student was arrested by the Newnan Police Department and removed from the campus.
