Apparent Altercation Leads to Stabbing
Just after 7 PM on September 12th, 2024, E911 received a call from a male stating they’d been stabbed in the area of Neal St.
Officers with the Newnan Police Department, assisted by deputies with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to the area of Neal St, while members of the Newnan Fire Department and EMS from Coweta County Fire Rescue responded to the area and safely staged awaiting the scene to be made safe by law enforcement.
Units arriving in the area were able to make contact with the victim. The victim informed them that the assault had occurred on the curb of West Washington St in front of the DJ’s Grocery location. The victim was also able to identify the suspect to the officers. Witnesses informed officers that they believed the suspect had left the scene in a blue Dodge Challenger
Once secured, EMT’s tended to the victim who reportedly received multiple stab and slash wounds. They were transported to Piedmont Newnan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The name and age of the victim has not been released at this time.
Investigation leads to Quick Apperhension
E911 Dispatch was able to take the name and age of the suspect provided by the victim and witnesses and provide a possible residence off Tuxedo Ave, a few streets west of the crime scene.
Units quickly responded to the area and were able to determine the suspect did belong to the residence and was with a family member in a blue Dodge Challenger. Officers were able to speak with the family member and they returned to the residence where the suspect was detained pending the investigation.
It’s unclear at this time due to the age of the suspect, 16, if they were arrested and transported to the regional Youth Detention Center in Hampton or given a court date and turned over to a legal custodian ( Parent ).
Any further information regarding the suspect will have to be supplied at the choice of the Newnan Police Department as juvenile records are exempt from open records requests.
During the investigation, units were able to locate the knife used in the stabbing. It’d somehow broken into two pieces with the blade being located at the crime scene and the handle located near the Tuxedo Ave residence.
