Stolen Vehicle Refuses to Stop
Just after 11 PM on November 30th, 2024, units with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office became aware of a possible stolen vehicle passing the 47 MM on I 85 headed north. The vehicle, a newer white Honda Accord, was showing stolen in GCIC out of Gwinnett County.
Within minutes, a deputy located the vehicle traveling northbound on I 85 near the 52 MM, as units kept the vehicle within sight, other units began taking proactive measures further north to hopefully ensure that the vehicle could safely be stopped and the the occupant(s) taken into custody without issue.
Deputies intitiated a traffic stop with the vehicle around the 55 MM of I 85 N, at first the vehicle slowed and took the Exit 56 off ramp, finally coming to a stop just shy of the stop sign at the end of the off ramp. As deputies exited their vehicles and attempted a felony stop on the vehicle, the driver gunned the engine and ran through the stop sign and back onto the northbound on ramp to get back on I 85. Seeing traffic was clear, and attempting to stop the vehicle before it reached the interstate lanes and higher speeds, the lead deputy preformed a Yeet ( or PIT ) of the suspect vehicle which caused it to veer left crossing all the lanes of the interstate and make contact with the center median.
Unfortunately, the vehicle was able to regain control and continue northbound for a short time before the deputy again Yeeted it, this time causing it to spin around 360 degrees before making contact with the center median where it was immediately pinned against the wall by multiple units.
Deputies preformed a felony stop on the vehicle, removing the suspect at gun point before placing him under arrest.
