Sleepy Request for Silence
Just before 5:30 AM on Thursday, April 10th, E911 received a call for a reporting stabbing in the area of East Magnolia Drive in East Newnan.
Deputies with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office as well as medical units were dispatched to the area. Due to the vagueness of the information provided by the caller, a third party, it took units a short time to locate the victim. Once located it was quickly determined that he hadn’t been stabbed but instead struck with a blunt object.
The crime scene was finally determined to be an address of off East Cole St where the victim lives in a shed on the property. Before the suspect was transported to the hospital he, along with others on scene that included family members of the victim, were able to identify the suspect as William Blake Thacker, 34, of Newnan. Units were able to quickly confirm that the suspect had left the scene prior to their arrival in a 2001 red Nissan Xterra.
According to the case report for the incident, at some point during the night Thacker arrived at the residence off East Cole St where the victim was located in the shed. After arriving Thacker reportedly began opening and closing his vehicle door, moving items, throwing things around and generally causing a loud disturbance. The victim stated that after hours of this going on it had affected his ability to sleep and around 5 AM he decided to exit the shed and talk to Thacker about the noise.
The victim stated that he told Thacker he was trying to sleep and that he needed to stop making so much noise, to which Thacker didn’t say anything. As he turned to leave and return to the shed, he felt himself being struck in the back of the head causing him to start to turn back towards Thacker when he was again struck in the head. Allegedly as the victim turned it’s believed that Thacker retrieved a socket wrench ( noted as 6 to 8 inches long with a large socket ). During the attack the victim was able to yell out which was heard by the victims brother, this apparently distracted Thacker long enough for the victim to grab and wrestle away the weapon.
Once disarmed, Thacker reportedly stopped his attack and left the scene. Thacker was later located and arrested. Thacker was arrested and taken to the Coweta County Jail.
