Suspect Runs out of Gas

On the morning of Friday, April 18th, an individual whose vehicle had run out of gas in the 5100 block of North Highway 29 just north of Kelly lane called 911. Additionally, the driver stated that he’d locked himself out of the vehicle. Originally the individual was directed to call a tow company regarding getting fuel and regaining access to his vehicle.

A short time later the individual called back and informed dispatch he was able to get back in his vehicle, and that he had fuel coming. He also requested a deputy respond to his location due to traffic coming close to his vehicle. Due to him informing dispatch of a traffic hazard, a deputy was dispatched to the location.

When the deputy arrived, they noted the driver was not with the vehicle. Dispatch relayed that he was in route with gas. The deputy ran the tag on the vehicle, noting that the registered owner came back with an active warrant. Dispatch confirmed the registered owner was the same individual they’d been speaking with. The deputy requested a second unit to the scene. When the owner, Chridarrius Hernandez Heard returned to the vehicle the deputy confirmed his identity and informed him he had a warrant. Heard began a phone call as he was being told this. The second deputy ordered Heard to put his phone down.

The Chase is on

Instead Heard fled on foot. Initially Heard fled through a field in front of the residence the vehicle had stopped at. Heard continued through the field before jumping a fence at Kelly Lane and running a short distance before eating concrete.

After getting back on his feet, Heard continued to run south down Highway 29 North. The first deputy, who was pursuing on foot, was asked by a passing motorist if they wanted a ride and the deputy jumped in the back of the motorist truck.

Heard continued running down the road until he reached Arbor Springs North Drive where he ran a short distance. The deputy jumped out of the truck having lost sight, before the driver of the truck pointed out Heard was hiding in the bushes beside the road. The second deputy arrived and both deputies commanded Heard to exit the bushes. Heard complied and was placed in handcuffs before being taken to the Coweta County Jail.
