The Incident

At 11:43 PM on Thursday, September 19th, 2024, E911 dispatched deputies to a family dispute occurring at 24 Hawthorne Dr after receiving a 911 call reporting an individual named Ronald Bradley West, 42, was attacking the female caller and her husband. CCFR units were also dispatched for a psych patient as West was acting in a manner consistent with someone possibly having mental health issues.

Radio traffic indicates that the supervisor on duty was aware of the subject from previous interactions, instructing two additional units to respond with the deputy initially dispatched.

Dispatch relayed to responding officers that the caller stated that they were able to separate from West, that weapons had not been involved at that point, and that alcohol was involved in the incident.

Multiple deputies arrived at the residence at 11:49 PM and began securing the scene and investigating the incident.

According to a press release by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office regarding the incident, after the deputies arrived West barricaded himself in a bedroom within the residence. As deputies attempted to speak with West through the door, he threatened to shoot them.

When deputies opened the door to make entry, they were confronted by West who, with a weapon in hand, advanced on them. In response, deputies shot West multiple times.

Deputies immediately informed dispatch of shots fired and asked for EMS to respond for a male with multiple gunshot wounds. They then detained West and began providing life-saving measures as EMS was responding.

Coweta County Fire Rescue units that had been staging in the area of the scene arrived quickly and requested life flight be notified. Air Life 4, based out of the Newnan Coweta Airport accepted the call and responded to a landing zone at Madras Middle School. West was quickly stabilized and transported to the Landing Zone where he was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

While CCFR units were treating West, deputies began setting up a crime scene around the residence, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was contacted and requested to perform an independent investigation into the use of force.

The investigation is now being conducted by the GBI and they will release their findings at a future date.
