Driver Calls 911 and Reports Hitting a Male
Just after 10:30 PM on Oct 16th, 2024, E911 received a call from a driver that stated they’d ” hit a homeless man” on Bullsboro Dr in Newnan.
Dispatch immediately notified both NPD and CCSO units in the area and began dispatching EMS/FIRE to the scene. Originally the units were dispatched to the area of 733 Bullsboro Dr, which is the address of the Starbucks, before the address was again changed to 2 Amlajack Blvd, which is the address of Wells Fargo across the street.
Units arrived in the area and quickly located the victim in the grass beside the road between Herring Rd and the entrance to IHOP. The confusion seems to have stemmed from a language barrier between the caller and the 911 call taker.
Law enforcement units were the first to arrive on the scene and they immediately began attempting to provide life-saving aid to the victim, who had sustained serious injuries in the accident. Shortly after arriving officers started providing CPR to the victim and continued as FIRE/EMS arrived. Sadly, despite their efforts, the victim, a 72-year-old local man, passed away from his injuries.
Continuing Investigation
The driver of the large SUV that struck the victim stopped and called 911 reporting the incident and stayed on the scene until units arrived. The accident appears to have occurred in the County and under the CCSO’s jurisdiction, however, in all fatality accidents that occur within the county the Georgia State Patrol is brought in to lead the investigation.
No details on the driver or the investigation were readily available overnight, however, we’ve begun reaching out to the agencies for more information this morning. We are also working to confirm the victim’s family has been notified and won’t release the victim’s identity until we receive it.
We’ll be updating this story throughout the day as more information becomes available.
